The Puma Mission
The mission of the Picolata Crossing Elementary Media Center is to inspire a love of literacy, technology, and STEM learning. We strive to support lifelong learning while aligning with Florida’s BEST Standards.
Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where students can:
- Enjoy reading in a comfortable space
- Share stories with friends
- Discover new books and series
- Explore technology and digital learning tools

Schedules
The Media Center serves nearly 1,000 students at PCES. Students visit through their resource rotation schedule (every seven weeks) and may also access the Media Center during designated Open Access times to:
- Check out books
- Read independently
- Conduct research
- Complete learning projects
The Media Center extends classroom learning by helping students locate, evaluate, and communicate information effectively.
Book Checkout & Policies
Checkout Limits
- Kindergarten and 1st Grade: 1 book per visit
- 2nd Grade: 2 books per visit
- 3rd-5th Grade: Up to 3 books per visit
Book Care
Students are taught proper book care beginning in kindergarten. To help keep books safe and easy to locate, students are encouraged to store library books in their backpacks when not reading them.
Loan Period & Renewals
- Library books are checked out for two weeks.
- Books may be renewed if the student has the book with them and there is no waiting list.
Lost or Damaged Books
Students are responsible for returning books in good condition. If a book is lost or damaged, replacement costs will be assessed.
Students with overdue books may not check out additional materials until the overdue items are returned.

Our Media Center maintains a current, balanced collection of approximately 8,000 items, including:
- Print books
- Interactive books
- eBooks
- Technology equipment
- Professional resources
Our up-to-date, balanced collection includes over 8,000 items which include books, interactive books, eBooks, technology equipment, professional books and materials. The Media Center also provides 30 student computers for student and staff use. Internet access is available in accordance with district guidelines. Students are expected to access digital resources and programs through Clever while using Media Center technology.
